Position Overview

The Department of Computer Science in the Faculty of Science invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Short Term position is for approximately 4 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to Principal Investigators in the Interactions Lab (iLab) at the University of Calgary. This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), fixed-term position for a period of 4 months with the possibility of extension, subject to performance and availability of funds. While stress levels are low in this role, moderate impact of errors can still occur.


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Assisting with visualization details on energy sources by sector for the NEB’s Energy Futures report.
  • Help to visualize infrastructure mapping data (e.g., pipelines and above-ground infrastructure such as pump stations)
  • Scripting and data wrangling
  • Assisting with qualitative studies (interviewing stakeholders, transcribing and analyzing data)
  • Establishing and maintaining effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
  • Managing own time effectively and ensuring immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Proficiency working in C# .NET, Java, and Python is considered an asset
  • Familiar with Discord Dashbord, creation of interactive visualizations using the D3.js library
  • Familiar with Visual Studio, Unity, Git, MySQL, and Linux based systems
  • Experience with the Adobe Design Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premier Pro
  • Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn on the job
