Position Overview

The Department of Computer Science in the Faculty of Science invites applications for a Programmer & Developer. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months(based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position will be a part of the Innovations in Visualization (InnoVIs) group, in the Interactions Lab (iLab) at University of Calgary and will be responsible for participation in any of the active research projects currently in iLab, and the design and development of infrastructure and tools to support ongoing research.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Design and program information visualization and human computer interaction applications
  • Design and develop new HTML5-based and native mobile applications
  • Assist with the set up and management of database schema creation
  • Support in the development of new C#, Processing, iOS and OSX applications, or adding features to existing applications
  • Support with the management and upkeep of servers, mobile devices, and mobile platform
  • Responsible for daily management of in-lab resources such as workstations
  • Demonstrate ability to recommend and design solutions that incorporate quality attributes, and meet social and technology requirements
  • Demonstrate deep passion for satisfying and understanding user needs and achieving high user and satisfaction
  • Demonstrate ability to lead an application team as part of a project that make up an end-to-end solution
  • Ensures team meets or exceeds established quality goals
  • Provides accurate time and resource estimates
  • Clarify requirements and influence decisions by making recommendations that lead the right solutions

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science is required, Masters degree is preferred
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a research lab or industry is preferred; however a combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly in programming
  • Strong ability to work independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A proven track record of successful results-oriented project delivery
