Position Overview

The Department of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Science invites applications for a Research Assistant.  This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Research Assistant will support ongoing research being conducted by various members of the research team. Successful applicants will have outstanding communication skills, be independantly motivated, and will be confortable working in a team environment.

 

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Maintain Calendar and arrange meetings as directed by the PI and senior research staff
  • Perform specific administrative tasks, such as filling out forms, as directed by the PI
  • Place orders, receive packages, and track inventory for lab and office-related supplies
  • Maintain office and lab-related records
  • Perform basic data analysis as per direction by senior staff
  • Prepare routine reports as directed by the PI
  • Perform basic instrument maintenance (such as changing filters) as directed by the PI
  • Perform other routine laboratory support jobs, such as a delivering supplies and performing laboratory clerical work and other lab tasks as directed by the senior research staff
  • Attending and participating in laboratory meetings and professional development activities as directed by the senior research staff

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • B.Sc. degree preferred
  • At least 1 year experience in a research environment required
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to perform some physical work in a safe and mindful manner
  • Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
