Duration: One year with extension subject to performance and funding
Start Date: 1 September 2018; start date negotiable
Salary: 52,000 CAD/year plus Benefits

The Institute for Quantum Science and Technology, Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in quantum networks with focus on rare-earth ion doped materials. The position is supported by the Quantum Alberta Quantum Networks Project.

Job Description:

The postdoctoral scholars will work on developing rare-earth ion materials based components for quantum networks.  A significant part of the project involves development of an efficient quantum memory. The postdoc will be supervised by Daniel Oblak.  The postdoctoral scholars are expected to present research advances in Institute seminars, workshops, conferences, internal project reports and in refereed journal and conference publications.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent, demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills, and have an excellent research track record in quantum information or related discipline. Experience with photonics and/or free-space optical links, solid-state materials, and significant breadth of scientific knowledge are highly desirable.
